The rubbery, polycarbonate finish makes it easy to grip and feels good in the hand. It doesn't look or feel cheap either, just different and that's a good thing.
The front of the HTC 8S is dominated by the 4 inch screen, as you might expect. Above it there's HTC's logo and a speaker, while below it there's the iconic stripe adorned with three soft touch buttons, specifically home, back and search. HTC have again stamped their logo in silver onto the back of the phone - this time much bigger.
Above it you'll find the 5 megapixel camera lens, while below it there's a logo for 'Beats' audio, below that a speaker and below that the coloured stripe. The top edge of the phone has a 3.

The general positioning of the power button is fine, but it's hardly raised at all, making it hard to find and press, in fact we found that we often thought we'd pressed it only for nothing to happen as we'd either missed it or not applied enough pressure. The bottom edge is home to a micro USB port, used for charging the handset and connecting it to a computer. You'll also find the microphone here. The top of the right edge houses a volume rocker while the bottom is home to a dedicated camera button - which both launches the camera and takes photos. The left edge has absolutely no buttons or ports on it.

However, there's no mistaking the sheer size of this phone and the limited Windows Phone third-party app ecosystem can't match rival platforms. Review Date: It offers excellent performance thanks to the slick Windows Phone OS and has a great display.
However, the 8X is let down by Nokia Lumia Windows Phone Despite its low price the Nokia Lumia has an appealing design, good performance and a long list of features. It's one of the best entry-level smartphones on the market.

We love the superb design and build, the excellent performance and the slick look and feel of the Windows Phone OS. However, the Lumia It lacks a front-facing camera and the screen is merely average, but this is a compact, well designed device that offer decent value for money. Nokia Lumia Windows Phone Nokia's Lumia doesn't offer anything remarkable, but a slick user experience at a very competitive price makes it great value for money.

Nokia Lumia Windows Phone The Nokia Lumia may not be a better phone than some of its competitors, but it's the first Nokia phone that can at least offer a very good alternative. The Lumia is easily the best Windows Phone on However, this is a very good mid-range smartphone at a relatively competitive price. The 5 megapixel model found in the Windows Phone 8S is just a lesser order camera than these top-end models and you can see the difference. But the thing to remember is that there are better options out there. In an age where most manufacturers have been focusing heavily on their pixels per inch rating, led initially by Apple with its so-called Retina Display, the 8S is a letdown.
It feels simply lovely in the hand, it has decent specifications and performs pretty well in practice. The phone is also quite stylish and available in quite a few cool colours.

It lacks the specifications such as 4G speeds, a high-end camera and high-end screen resolution to compete with high-end models in the iOS, Android or Windows Phone ecosystems, and you can get more power for around the same price or a little more elsewhere. However, the Lumia has only a slightly larger screen than the 8S and comes with a range of other benefits, such as a better camera, support for 4G speeds and so on. We agree with the design experts at HTC that not everybody wants a huge screen on their smartphone, and we applaud the 8S for such a lovely overall design that feels lovely in the hand and in the pocket.
Not everyone agrees with this viewpoint of the 8S. Check out these reviews by Engadget and The Verge for an alternative point of view. Both were quite positive about the handset.
